24 ISI agents arrested in 2016 says Govt


New Delhi: Over 24 ISI agents for spying for the Pakistani intelligence agency have been arrested so far this year, the Lok Sabha was informed on Tuesday.

“Moreover, one Pakistani spy agent in addition to these 24 agents, detected in October 2016 was Pakistan High Commission, New Delhi based intelligence officer Mehmood Akhtar,” Minister of State for Home Hansraj Ahir said replying a written question.

Of those, who were arrested so far this year, nine were held in Rajasthan, six in Punjab, two in Gujarat, two in Jammu and Kashmir, one in Uttar Pradesh and four in Delhi.

Ahir said a portion of the staff posted in Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi is suspected to be required in running reconnaissance arrange.

The official who was secured by the Delhi Police for spying was subsequently pronounced persona-non-grata by the Indian powers.

“The Government is finding a way to counter such episodes in future. The Government is unflinchingly dedicated to find a way to guarantee the security of the country and the wellbeing of our subjects,” he said.
