200 Nilgais shot dead in Bihar, Maneka Gandhi slams Environment Ministry


The Union Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi get angered by the killing of 200 Nilgais in Bihar, and accused Prakash Javadekar of encouraging animal killing.


Bihar  : The Union Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi has accused Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar of encouraging a regime “killing animals”

Maneka Gandhi who is an animal rights activist , said that she could not understand the environment ministry’s “lust for killing animals”.

The  ministry is writing to each state giving permission to kill animals.

Maneka Gandhi  lashed out the Union Environment Ministry headed by Prakash Javadekar for handing out permission to kill wild animals. Maneka’s   statement comes in light of the environment ministry saying” Now you tell me what could be the role”. He only has to give the permission. This is the first time environment ministry is giving permission to killing animals.

Javadekar’s  Defence

Javadekar defended his ministry by saying   that “such permission are given by the recommendation of state governments”, and denying Gandhi’s charge.

This permission is given “when the state government write to us about farmers’ suffering due to crop damage by animals. “It is an existing law” this is not a central government programme. said by Javadekar .


What’s the Matter

The Bihar government had approached the centre asking for the permission to kill blue bulls after they destroyed acres of standing crops of in the state.

The Nitish government had hired professional hooters to kill the animals after getting a go ahead from the centre.
