CHENNAI: On Tuesday at Mambalam Railway Station, an 18-month-old girl died and her mother undergoes numerous fractures to a leg as trying to get off a moving train. Police Officials has also further conveyed that, the mishap happened approximately 5.40am when Lakshmi, 32, her daughter Ega Shree in her arms, and her husband Sundaravelan were returning home by the Mannai Express.
They had gone to Kumbakonam to attend a relative's wedding. Sundaravelan, a professor in a city college, afterward conveyed police they initially planned to get off at Egmore Railway Station. Though, as the train halted at Mambalam, a co-passenger directed them to get off there, conveying it would be easier to go to their house in Ashok Nagar.
Sundaravelan said his wife regarding the alter in plan and solicited her to move out. He gathered their belongings and followed. By then the train been in progress and was already gathering speed. Locals has conveyed to police that, the man directed to jump out and land safely, but Lakshmi, who was carrying the child, landed awkwardly and misplaced balance.
Ega Shree was torn from her hands and slipped into the gap between the train and tracks. She died immediately. Police officials has also further conveyed that, a distressed Lakshmi got to her feet and tried to rush her daughter's save but got trapped in the gap and broke her leg in a few places.
On getting the information, a squad of personnel from the Egmore administration Railway Police hurried to the place and sent the child's body to the Rajiv Gandhi Government Medical College Hospital for autopsy. Lakshmi was taken to the government Stanley Medical College and Hospital where she is improving. Based on a grievance from Sundaravelan, the GRP police filed a case.
