14,000 migrants saved in Med in 5 days, says Italian coastguard


Atleast 1,725 migrants were rescued from Libyan coast since Sunday. The news was confirmed by the Italian coastguard on Friday. The rescue operators saved the lives of around 14,000 people since Sunday.

“Italian naval vessels have saved around 16 small boats from Mediterranean, Ships from the EU’s “Sophia” anti trafficking mission, NGO boats and two passing merchant ships”, the coastguardsaid.

“Good summer weather has caused spike in attempted migrant crossings, including a record 6,500 people picked up on Monday. Three people were found dead on a boat on Wednesday, It added.

Italy is shielding developing quantities of would-be displaced people as its neighbors toward the north move to fix their outskirts and make it harder for transients to go to their favored destinations in northern Europe.

As per the inside service, Italy now has 148,000 refuge seekers in gathering focuses, contrasted and 103,000 in 2015 and 66,000 in 2014.
