12 Tamil Nadu fishermen detained by Navy, two trawler boats seized

The Sri Lankan Navy detained 12 fishermen on Sunday. The reports revealed that they belong from Tamil Nadu’s Pudukkottai and Nagapattinam districts.

On Saturday night, the fishermen carried out illegal fishing.

Nearly 2000 Tamil fishermen in 400 boats were assaulted by the SL Navy with beer bottles, iron roads and stones.

The fishermen from Rameshwaram took approval from Indian officials for fishing in Dhanushkodi, where they were assaulted.

At Least ten fishermen were detained by the Sri Lankan Navy few days back and their boat was also taken into custody in Katchatheevu islands.

Nearly 16 fishermen were detained by the Sri Lankan Navy on March 23 from Rameswaram and Jagadapattinam in Pudukottai district for doing illegal fishing.

On March 6, an Indian fisherman was attacked by the SL navy while fishing between Dhanushkodi and Katchatheevu.
