Mumbai: Parliament was informed on Tuesday that, splitting on individuals with multiple PAN cards, about 11.44 lakh permanent account numbers were deactivated.
This was conversed to the Rajya Sabha in a written reply by Minister of State for Finance Santosh Kumar Gangwar.
He further conveyed that, as on July 27, 11,44,211 PANs have been recognized and deactivated in cases where multiple PANs were originate allotted to one person.
PAN is the key identifier of taxable entity and aggregator of all fiscal transactions start by one person. Minister Gangwar further added that one PAN for one person is the guiding principle for allotment of PAN.
About 1,566 PANs were recognized as fake and were allotted to people with fake individuality. The Assessing Officer has the facility to de-activate PAN throughout application software.
